Mugnano del Cardinale is an Italian municipality in the Province of Avellino, Campania. It is located in a valley created by the Acqualonga stream, at the foot of the western Irpinia mountains, an ideal destination for long and oxygenating hikes in the thick woods that surround it, but also a renowned place of pilgrimage, thanks to the presence of the Sanctuary of Saint Philomena.

This town specializes and is known worldwide for its production of cured meats. 

In Mugnano del C.le, in addition to the delicatessen factories, there are small stores and bars,  very nice ice cream parlors, restaurants, pizzerias, sandwich shops  and a small shopping center. The locals, the people of Mugnano, are very kind and hospitable. 

The Sanctuary is in a unique location allowing access to many other shrines and attractions. 

Located near Naples, the Sanctuary of Santa Filomena is an ideal base for visiting the city. Naples is a popular destination for many Italian and foreign tourists who love culture and art. It is rich in churches, among which is the Cathedral of San Gennaro, the patron saint of Naples. The blood of San Gennaro miraculously liquefies every year on 19 September. The Naples area is also home to a natural wonder, Mount Vesuvius, a volcano of great historical importance. For all nature lovers, a visit to Vesuvius is a must!

The nearby Sorrento Peninsula is a triumph of natural beauty and breathtaking views overlooking the sea. There are quaint villages perched on the Coast where Sorrento is located, and devotees can visit the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Amalfi on the Amalfi Coast. For those seeking complete relaxation and time for endless meditation, these locations are ideal.

Other interesting sites include Pompei - with its Ruins and the Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary, the Shrine of Montevergine (in the province of Avellino) dedicated to Our Lady (Mamma Schiavona), and the Shrine of St. Gerard Maiella (at Materdomini, a hamlet of Caposele in the province of Avellino).

 Day trips can be conveniently made to Rome, to the Abbey of Monte Cassino (FR), to San Giovanni Rotondo (the earthly home of St. Pio), to Monte Sant'Angelo in Gargano (FG) for St. Michael the Archangel, to Salerno for St. Matthew and to Lanciano (CH) for the Eucharistic Miracle. Also, not far away, one can visit Assisi for St. Francis

From Mugnano del Cardinale, you can reach Avellino, the provincial capital (20 km) and Naples (40 km) by regular bus.

You can also reach Naples by train via the circumvesuviana railway line, leaving from Baiano about 3 km away.

Other places of interest such as Sorrento, Pompei and Rome can be easily reached.

About 2 km away is the entrance to the A16 Naples/Bari freeway tollbooth.
